Educational Travel Programs

Have the time of your life with incredible educational travel programs like those offered by Abbey Road prepare students for college in a number of ways.

Academically, cultural immersion provides students with top-notch language skills and the confidence to use them in a variety of settings. However, when a student studies abroad, they receive more than just improved language skills, as Hadley Green learned after signing up for a program with Abbey Road.

"I would have never had the confidence to just start speaking to people before Saint-Laurent-du-Var," said Green, a 2009 alumnus. "I am overjoyed that I can now go up to people and just start talking to them! I made friends from all over the world that will last a lifetime and got to experience the French culture first-hand, living in a warm and open family."

Abbey Road students say that their experiences living with host families or on their own with Abbey Road staff helps build maturity and confidence.

"I was able to speak Spanish more frequently and thus was able to become quite fluent," said Smita Garg of her experience living with a host family in Cádiz in 2009. "The family setting helped me understand the culture and ways of doing things in Spain. It helped me become a more independent and confident person."
Another 2009 Cádiz study abroad student, Anna Kushner, said, "I feel as though Cádiz allowed me to mature and gave me the ability to be able to stand on my own two feet."

Students who live on their own with one of our educational travel programs, rather than in home stays, cook for themselves with Abbey Road staff and learn to work together.

"The trip left a huge impact on her maturity and cooking skills," said Melinda Sanders, whose daughter Sarah went on Abbey Road’s program in Saint-Laurent-du-Var in 2009.

"We stayed up late and played cards, learned to cook authentic Italian meals and made messes with our bubbly cooking instructor, William, laughed and talked about our time at home, hosted residence night at least weekly by inviting everyone to come hang out with us, but most importantly, we helped each other with our work and sat down and made art together," said Emily Kissenberth of her 2009 Abbey Road program in Florence. "For me, being surrounded by centuries of fine art and living with five other artists was the most inspiring thing about being in Italy."
